Hazrat Abu Saeed Khudri رضي الله عنه reports that Rasulullah صلى الله عليه و سلم said: “Whichever person does not possess anything to give in charity, then he should recite the following durood in his duaa, for indeed this will serve as charity for him:
O Allah, send your choicest blessings upon Hazrat Muhammad صلى الله عليه و سلم your slave and messenger, and descend blessings upon the believing men and women.
Hazrat Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم thereafter said, “A believer continues to do good and is never fully satisfied with the good that he carries out until he finally (passes away on imaan and) reaches Jannah.”
(The Gift of Durood and Salaam)
Commentary
Allaamah Sakhaawi (rahmatullahi alayh) has stated that it is on the strength of this Hadith that Haafiz Ibn Hibbaan (rahmatullahi alayh) titled a chapter in his book to discuss the fact that Durood Shareef can serve as a substitute for Sadaqah when a person cannot afford any Sadaqah.
(Fazaail Durood pg.48)
“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”
May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
