Attaining Abundant Mercy from Allah Ta’ala

Hazrat Abu Hurairah رضي الله عنه reports that Hazrat Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “Whoever sends salutations upon me once, Allah will send salutations (i.e. reward him and shower His mercy) upon him ten times.”

(The Gift of Durood and Salaam pg.44)

Hazrat Abdullah bin Amr bin Aas رضي الله عنهما reported, “Whoever sends salutations upon Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم once, Allah Ta‘ala and His angels will send seventy mercies and blessings upon him in return of his one Durood. Hence, whoever wishes to increase his Durood should increase it, and whoever wishes to decrease his Durood should decrease it (i.e. if he wants to earn great rewards, then he should increase his Durood).”

(The Gift of Durood and Salaam pg.46)

Commentary

Ulama have stated that whenever Ahaadith differ in the amounts of rewards (such as these Ahaadith specifying ten and then seventy times), the higher figure could have come afterwards because of the grace and favours that Allah Ta’ala bestows upon the Ummah of Rasulullah The promise of ten mercies was therefore the initial promise of rewards, which was later increased to seventy. Other Ulama have stated that the difference in rewards varies according to the differences in people, circumstances and times. This difference in the amount of rewards also exists for performing salaah in Jama’ah, which is between 25 times to 27 times the reward. This discussion comes in Fazaail-e-Salaah.

Mulla Ali Qaari رحمه الله is of the opinion that the reward of seventy mercies is specific for the day of Jumu’ah, because of a Hadith stating that the rewards of deeds are multiplied seventy times on the day of Jumu’ah.

“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”

May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
