The following incident is recorded in Al-Raudhul Faa’iq. Hazrat Sufyaan Thauri رحمه الله mentioned:
Once, while performing tawaaf, I saw a man also engaged in tawaaf. Throughout his entire tawaaf, he was only reciting Durood upon Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم, at every step, and did not recite any tasbeeh, tahleel etc.
When I asked him the reason, he replied, “And who are you?” I replied, “I am Sufyaan Thauri.” He then said: “Had you not been the only scholar of your calibre, I would not have revealed something which is my secret.
My father and I went for hajj. Enroute, my father fell ill. While I was doing my utmost to treat him, he suddenly passed away, and his entire face turned black. This distressed me greatly and (recognizing this to be a bad sign,) I said, ‘Innaa lillah.’
“I then covered his face with a cloth. Soon thereafter, my eyes closed and I fell off to sleep in this sorrow. In a vision, I saw a man approaching. I had never seen a man as handsome as he, clothes as clean as his, and a fragrance as sweet as his. He approached in haste, removed the cloth from my father’s face and put his hand over his face. Immediately, the face of my father turned white.
“As he was about to depart, I held onto him and asked, ‘May Allah Ta’ala have mercy upon you. Please tell me who are you, for Allah Ta’ala has shown mercy to my father in his great need because of you.’ He replied, ‘Do you not recognize me? I am Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم, the son of Abdullah, the person of the Quraan Majeed. Your father was a very great sinner, but he always recited Durood upon me abundantly. Hence, when through his sins, evils descended on him, I saw his great need and hastened to assist him, as I do for all those who recite Durood upon me.

وَائْذَنْ لِسُحْبِ صلاةٍ مِنْكَ دَائِمَةٍ عَلَى النَّبِيِّ بِمُنْهَلٍّ وَمُنْسَجِمِ
(O Allah!) so order clouds of salutations (and blessings which) perpetually (send salutation) from You upon Nabi صلى الله عليه وسلم (to send down their rains of salutations upon him صلى الله عليه وسلم) abundantly and gently.
مَا رَنَّحَتْ عَذَبَاتِ الْبَانِ رِيْحُ صَبَا وَأَطْرَبَ الْعِيْسَ حَادِي العِيْسِ بِالنَّغَمِ
(O Allah) as long as the easterly breezing makes the branches of the cypress rustle (means as long as this world is existent, shower your blessings on Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم) and (as long as) the camel rider makes (his) camel march with (his) enchanting (and charming) songs.
The meaning of the above two stanzas is that Allah’s special mercy should continue to shower on Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم till the end of time. The poet has, in a beautiful manner, endeavoured to convey this meaning.

يَا رَبِّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ دَائِمَاً أَبَدًا عَلَىْ حَبِيْبِكَ خَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِمِ
“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”
جَزَی الله عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْه وسَلَّمَ بِمَا هُوَ أَھْلُهُ
May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
