Hazrat Fadhalah bin Ubaid رضي الله عنه mentions that on one occasion, while Sayyiduna Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم was seated (in the Musjid), a certain person entered and performed Salaah. After performing Salaah, the person made dua saying; “O Allah! Forgive me and shower Your mercy upon me.” Observing the manner in which this person made dua, Sayyiduna Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم addressed him saying;

“You have hastened (in asking Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله for your need), O Musalli! After performing Salaah, when you are seated to make dua, commence by first praising Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله as He is worthy of being praised. Thereafter, recite Durood upon me, and then present your need to Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله.”

Thereafter, another person performed Salaah. After performing Salaah, he praised Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله, recited Durood upon (Sayyiduna) Rasoolullah صلى الله عليه وسلم (and then commenced making dua). Observing this person (and him adhering to the etiquettes of dua), (Sayyiduna) Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said to him;

“O Musalli! Make dua, for your dua will be accepted.”

Reflections

From this Hadith of Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم we understand the importance of sending durood upon Nabi صلى الله عليه و سلم whilst engaging in dua. In another narration, Hazrat Abdullah ibn Masood رضي الله عنه has said that; “When anyone intends asking Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله for anything in prayer, he should firstly praise Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله with such praises that are due to Him. Then he should recite salaam on Sayyiduna Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and then ask for his need. In this manner it is more likely that he shall be successful in his plea and reach his desired aim.” (Majmauz Zawaid #17255)

يَا رَبِّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ دَائِمَاً أَبَدًا عَلَىْ حَبِيْبِكَ خَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِمِ

“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”

 جَزَی اللهُ عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْه وسَلَّمَ بِمَا هُوَ أَھْلُهُ

May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
