عن سهل بن سعد رضي الله عنه قال جاء رجل إلى النبي صلى الله عليه وسلم فشكا إليه الفقر وضيق العيش أو المعاش فقال له رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا دخلت منزلك فسلم إن كان فيه أحد أو لم يكن فيه أحد ثم سلم علي واقرأ قل هو الله أحد مرة واحدة ففعل الرجل فأدر الله عليه الرزق حتى أفاض على جيرانه وقراباته (القول البديع ص ٢٧٩)
Hazrat Sahl bin Sa’d رضي الله عنه reports that on one occasion, a Sahaabi came to Hazrat Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and complained of poverty and difficulty in earning a livelihood. Hazrat Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said to this Sahaabi, “When you enter your home then make Salaam, regardless of whether there is anyone in the home or not. Thereafter, send Salaam upon me and recite Qul-Huwallah (Surah Ikhlaas) once.” The Sahaabi did as instructed by Hazrat Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and Allah Ta’ala blessed him with such abundant sustenance that he even began to spend upon his neighbors and relatives.”

Beautiful Advice
Reciting durood and salaam is a must in every home. The way of the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم and the pious was that each person would recite durood shareef in his individual time. Hence, it is more important that you do the durood shareef daily in your own time than doing it weekly in a group.
In fact, this practice of reciting Durood Shareef at home is such that some pious people have such an environment of Durood Shareef at home that both husband and wife have their own formulae for Durood which shows us the importance, love and attachment with Durood Shareef.
Below is an excerpt from Hazrat Moulana Saleem Dhorat’s حفظه الله kitab ‘Gift of Salat and Salam’.
Moulana writes,
“However, a person who is empty from every aspect and forever desirous to find any good deed that may be accepted in the Court of Allah Ta’ala and thus become a means of acquiring forgiveness and the intercession of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم on the day of resurrection, what can he do other than cling on to any straw of hope he finds? It is this very need and eagerness that created a desire in the heart of this lowly one, to present a compilation of Salat and Salam as a gift in the court of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم, despite not being worthy. The Grace of Allah Ta’ala remained on my side and a small compilation was prepared. In it, an effort was made to send Salat and Salam upon the Beloved of the Rabbul- Alamin, the Leader of the prophets and messengers, the Seal of all the prophets, our Master صلى الله عليه وسلم, using formulae that contain the ismuttafḍil (superlative tense). When my wife came to know of this, she showed me her own compilation which she had put together in order to present Salat and Salam in the court of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and which she had included in her mamulat (daily practices). This compilation included formulae which contained Salat and Salam along with the lofty characteristics and qualities of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. I liked this compilation and thus decided to include it in this booklet too. I request the readers to include both of these compilations of Salat and Salam in their mamulat, make it a point to recite them during journeys of Umrah and Hajj, especially in Al-Madinah AlMunawwarah, and utilise them in other special moments and places too, to send Salat and Salam to the court of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم. This will be a great favour upon us both. Jazakumullahu Khayra.”

يَا رَبِّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ دَائِمَاً أَبَدًا عَلَىْ حَبِيْبِكَ خَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِمِ
“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”
جَزَی اللہُ عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْه وسَلَّمَ بِمَا هُوَ أَھْلُهُ
May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
