عن كعب بن عجرة رضي الله عنه قال قال رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم احضروا المنبر فحضرنا فلما ارتقى درجة قال آمين فلما ارتقى الدرجة الثانية قال آمين فلما ارتقى الدرجة الثالثة قال آمين فلما نزل قلنا يا رسول الله لقد سمعنا منك اليوم شيئا ما كنا نسمعه قال إن جبريل عليه السلام عرض لي فقال بعد من أدرك رمضان فلم يغفر له قلت آمين فلما رقيت الثانية قال بعد من ذكرت عنده فلم يصل عليك فقلت آمين فلما رقيت الثالثة قال بعد من أدرك أبويه الكبر عنده أو أحدهما فلم يدخلاه الجنة قلت آمين (الترغيب والترغيب #1479)
Hazrat Ka’b bin ‘Ujrah رضي الله عنه reports the following:On one occasion, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم addressed the Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم saying, “Come close to the mimbar.”
When we came close, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم ascended the mimbar. When he ascended the first step, he said “Aameen”. When he ascended the second step, he said “Aameen”. When he ascended the third step, he said “Aameen”.
(When he descended from the mimbar after delivering the khutbah,) The Sahaabah رضي الله عنهم enquired, “O Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم ! We heard you mention something today that we did not hear from you previously (i.e. Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم saying ‘Aameen’ thrice while ascending the mimbar).”
Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم said, “When I ascended the first step of the mimbar, Hazrat Jibra’eel عليه السلام appeared before me and said, “Woe to him who witnessed the blessed month of Ramadaan and let it pass without gaining forgiveness (i.e. he did not fulfill the rights of this month).” Upon that, I said ‘Aameen’.
(When I ascended the second step of the mimbar,) he said, “Woe to him in whose presence your name is mentioned and he does not send salutations upon you.” I replied, ‘Aameen’.
(When I ascended the third step of the mimbar,) he said, “Woe to that person in whose presence both or one of his parents attain old age and (through failing to serve them and fulfill their rights,) they do not become the means of him entering Jannah.” I said ‘Aameen’ (i.e. due to not serving them, he is deprived of entry into Jannah.”)

Reflections
In this Mubarak Hadith, three categories of people have been cursed:
- The one who does not get his Maghfirat during the month of Ramadaan.
- The one who does not send Durood upon Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم when Rasulullah’s صلى الله عليه وسلم name is taken.
- The one who fails to serve his parents during their old age.
Let us understand the severity of this curse. It is being made by the greatest angel, Hazrat Jibreel عليه السلام. The Aameen is being said by the greatest creation, Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم, on the mimbar of one of the greatest masjids, in a gathering consisting of the greatest of this ummah.
May Allah protect us all from being eligible of any of these curses.
Moulana Muhammad Abbasoomar حفظه الله mentions regarding this Hadith, “Each of these three groups are guilty of extreme dis-appreciation. Therefore, they were cursed by even the most compassionate human being صلى الله عليه وسلم.

So, let us show immense gratitude for this month of Ramadaan, the bounty of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم and the shade of our beloved parents.
Let’s endeavour to take maximum benefit and get our Maghfirat in Ramadaan as well as recite Durood Shareef whenever the name of Rasulullah صلى الله عليه وسلم is taken and take special care in fulfilling the rights of our parents especially in their old age.
يَا رَبِّ صَلِّ وَسَلِّمْ دَائِمَاً أَبَدًا عَلَىْ حَبِيْبِكَ خَيْرِ الْخَلْقِ كُلِّهِمِ
“O Sustainer, shower Salaat and Salaam forever and ever upon Your beloved, who is the best of all creation.”
جَزَی اللہُ عَنَّا نَبِيَّنَا مُحَمَّدًا صَلَّی اللہُ عَلَیْه وسَلَّمَ بِمَا هُوَ أَھْلُهُ
May Allah Ta’ala جل جلاله reward our Nabi Muhammad صلى الله عليه وسلم on our behalf such a reward that is due to Him.
